Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary

Founded by Mother Basilea Schlink in 1968, Canaan in the Desert serves as a base for our literature, audio/radio and video ministry.  Television programs, including the Easter special "No Greater Love" (a walk through the  prayer garden) have been shown all over America.  Our newest film is called "Repentence".

Prayer is a way of life for us, whether trusting God to supply our daily needs, celebrating His redemption, or engaging in intercessory prayer for society and the nation at large.  Called by God from various countris to serve in Phoenix, we long to help others enter a closer walk with Jesus, to bring encouragement to those who are hurting, to see a turn to God's directive for living: the Ten Commandments.  We seek,  in the spirit of repentance, to work for reconciliation, and over the past several years, bonds of love have been formed with Holocaust survivors and members of ethnic minorities such as Native American Indians.

We also explore ways of contributing practically to those in need.  As prison populations's increase and budgets provide nothing for Christian literature, chaplains are thankful for free, faith-inspiring printed messages to encourage prisoners and their families.  We bring encouragement to our military men and women at home and abroad by providing bookmarks, leaflets, booklets, books, CDs, DVDs and iPods.  Many groups come to Canaan in the Desert for our "Day of Fellowship", tours through our Prayer Garden, Bible study and for personal ministry.

CCV has a long relationship with the Sisters. The wife of CCV’s founding pastor, Marge Zollner is on their Board of Directors. CCV has helped the Sisters at their Phoenix branch, called Canaan in the Desert, in many ways for nearly 40 years. This help has included construction, laborers, funds for building or mailing literature, and groceries for the Sisters and helpers who live totally by faith. The Sisters welcome all to come visit them at 9849 N. 40th St. and experience the beautiful Stations of the Cross prayer garden walk. They also hold monthly prayer meetings and have a chapel and literature distribution center.
